ANNUAL APPEAL NEWS

Posted December 2, 2017

Dear Friends and Supporters:                                                                            December 2017

We have had a banner year and are ecstatic over the newly completed EDUCATION CENTER.  This impressive new facility is a pristine, climate-controlled environment serving cadets, scholars, tourists, young students and adult learners alike, while providing a space to learn and congregate.  Plans are currently underway to repurpose some of the Association’s Warner artifacts currently on exhibit at the Putnam History Museum, with the help of a curator, into the Education Center’s own interpretive display in 2018.

The best news we could have hoped for arrived in late September when West Point’s Superintendent, Lt. General Robert Caslen shared that the Federal Government has awarded the contract for the PRESERVATION OF THE WARNER HOUSE.  This engineering and structural project has since been successfully contracted “to be completed in 365 days”.

It is now critical to raise funds to restore the house’s interior, prepare an assessment and inventory of the home furnishings and archives, along with the continued care and maintenance of these items in preparation of the reopening of the home.  We will continue hosting our signature events on the Island, along with offering public tours and the continued maintenance of the historically authentic gardens, all realized through the help of our invaluable volunteers.

With invigorated enthusiasm, the Board is actively working on reestablishing an incredibly successful educational program that shares the rich history of Constitution Island and the legacy of the Warner Sisters with its visitors.  Our goal is to get people to and connect people with Constitution Island while keeping our sights set on fully reopening in the very near future.

CIA is grateful for your past support, and I urge you to consider contributing once again, helping to further support our work and programs outlined above.  Curating, upkeep and providing educational information and material to the public is made possible through your membership and generosity.  Your gift will help us continue to make this beautiful, historic gem available to the public.

Please DONATE to the CIA in any of the following ways:

  • Contribute online via our website, www.constitutionIsland.org

  • Write a check payable to “CIA,” and mail it with the enclosed envelope

  • Enter credit card info via the enclosed donation card and mail it with the enclosed envelope

Additionally, we welcome you to our ANNUAL MEETING on Sunday, 10 December 2017 at Dutchess Manor in Beacon, NY at 11:30am for a sumptuous brunch followed by the annual election of new Board Members and keynote conversation with Architect Stephen Tilly.

THANK YOU for A CENTURY OF PROTECTING THE WARNER’S VISION!

Gratefully,

Vincent Tamagna, Chairman

Constitution Island Association

Dear Members of the CIA,

The Constitution Island Association is grateful for your support over the years.  To thank you, I would like to extend an invitation to join us for a Labor Day celebration.  The CIA has a close and supportive partnership with the United States Military Academy at West Point and is proud to announce its first annual Chairman’s Labor Day Picnic, which will conclude at the majestic Trophy Point Amphitheater at the U.S. Military Academy with the grand finale of the “Music Under the Stars” summer concert series.

Lt. General Caslen, Superintendent of the United States Military Academy, has graciously invited a block of our membership to enjoy the powerful rendition of Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture with live cannon fire and fireworks over the Hudson River and Constitution Island.  The celebration will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 3rd (rain date Monday, September 4th).

Join us for an evening of musical delight with some of the finest musicians in the world.  The West Point Band is the Army’s oldest musical organization and has been providing support and music to West Point and the nation since 1817.  Guests of the Constitution Island Association will be provided a box picnic and are welcome to visit the historic U.S. Military Academy grounds and enjoy beautiful Hudson River views while West Point's Concert Band, Hellcats, and Benny Havens Band perform a wide variety of world-class music.  These concerts are free and open to the public.
