Volunteers
Be a Volunteer
People interested in volunteering are asked to attend a 90 minute orientation. These can be arranged at the convenience of the docent. Orientations are held at the Desmond-Fish Library in Garrison, NY and at Building 2104 at West Point Visitors Center on Main Street in Highland Falls, NY.
Reservations for the orientations are recommended. For a reservation or more information call Richard de Koster at (845) 446-8676, e-mail to info@constitutionisland.org or write to the Constitution Island Association at: Box 41, West Point, NY 10996.
Volunteers have been the backbone of our work since the beginning of the Constitution Island Association. Each year over 70 local residents come together on Constitution Island to insure this historic site’s survival. These volunteers contribute their time as gardeners and docents.
Constitution Island is looking for new docents to enjoy summer on the Hudson. Spend the summer reliving local history by becoming a volunteer at the Warner House on Constitution Island, a unique part of the United States Military Academy at West Point.
Tours to the Island are guided by volunteers just like you. Volunteers will receive training in guiding visitors through the 17 room Warner House. They will also learn to take visitors on a short walk from the house to see the ruins of Revolutionary War forts. Volunteers make their own schedules. The tours operate on Wednesdays and Thursdays from May through September. Docent benefits include an catered afternoon cruise on the Hudson and a field trip to another historic site. Have fun, meet new friends and help your neighbors continue an almost century old tradition!
